Lleyton and Bec Hewitt’s tennis star son, Cruz Hewitt, has been sizzling up both the Wimbledon courts and the sidelines, as the 17-year-old was photographed mixing and mingling with Roger Federer’s teen daughters.
Away from competing at the boys’ finals at Wimbledon, Cruz was spotted spending quality time with the tennis great’s twin daughters, Myla and Charlene Federer, at Wimbledon. Far from strangers, Cruz, Myla and Charlene spent their early years together on the road while following their famous fathers around the world.
And now Cruz, aged 17, is stepping out of his father’s shadow and forging a tennis career of his own, competing at the boys’ finals, with Federer’s 16-year-old daughters supporting the young tennis star.
Cruz was spotted warmly greeting Myla and Charlene Federer as he entered the junior boys’ final at Wimbledon, with the twins waiting at the All England Club to greet him.
This reunion follows Cruz being seen sitting alongside Myla and Charlene during a match at the Australian Open in January, sending tennis fans into a frenzy over how much the teenagers have changed since they were a few bright-eyed kids on tour with their dads.
The teenagers were pictured getting along like a house on fire, bringing speculation that a romance could blossom with Cruz and one of Federer’s daughters. It looks like Cruz and Myla could be a sporting dynasty power couple in the making!
“It makes sense that Cruz Hewitt and Myla Federer would at least be mates. Cruz has always been close to Myla and her twin Charlene,” a source told Woman’s Day. “If they are really an item, then for both sets of parents, it would be a relief of sorts because they each know that they have grown up together with very similar values.”
With both youngsters growing up sharing the spotlight with their sporting legend fathers, Cruz and Myla would share a similar perspective on fame — and Lleyton and Bec wouldn’t need to worry that Cruz’s girlfriend was only dating him for clout.
“It must be hard for the kids of such famous mums and dads because they’d always be wary of anyone dating their kids and whether their intentions are honourable,” the source added. “So there’s not that worry with Cruz and Myla. They’ve always been more like brother and sister, so it’s quite sweet if they are actually smitten with each other.”
Apparently, Cruz and Myla have the approval of their own siblings, too. “Charlene, who is very protective of her sister, adores Cruz so she definitely will give him the thumbs up!” the source claimed. “And Cruz’s little sister Ava who is over there with the family cheering on big brother will be beside herself excited — she has grown up idolising the Federer twins!”
Even though Cruz has fallen short of the Wimbledon boys’ final, losing his match against American Jordan Lee, he will still cherish the memory of taking on the same historical court that won his father a trophy in 2002, and it’s a title Myla’s dad, Roger Federer, won eight times.
“A very special week for me,” Cruz said after the final.
“I played some good tennis. I’m happy with my level and to make the final on this beautiful court, it’s been really unreal.”
